Ben’s penchant for capturing transitory and revealing moments was established in his formative years as a photojournalist and sport photographer.
In his personal work, Ben uses visual cues and contextual references to raise questions about human behaviour. Embedded in his work is an ironic view of human indifference, amidst the consequences of environmental catastrophe.
Whilst drawing on archetypal street and documentary photography, Ben works outside the framework of a particular genre. He draws upon stereotypes found in commercial photography, creating ambiguity around the origin and even the authorship of the work. This is suggestive of our predisposition to consumer culture and its influence on social identity and authenticity.
Ben currently lives in Castlemaine, Australia.
