I enjoy interchanging between the two modes—the urban environment of Melbourne/Naarm and my rural surroundings of central Victoria, Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Australia. Both urban and rural landscapes contain layers of history, complexity and symbolism, which have shaped these once-natural environments. I’m not the first photographer to observe the paradox: there are many negative aspects of man-altered landscapes; highly evocative, yet compelling and somehow admirable. To me, this is worth revealing. 2024 update: While the above interest remains, I moved to Mparntwe Alice Springs in 2023. I still get out regularly to photograph and I’m working through a backlog of film processing and scanning (while I have a day job).
